认真思考	递交于2003-8-7    美国之不同于中国，其根本是人的素质和 思想文化基础不同。中国人早在千年之前 就已经达到高度统一的社会，作为一个中 国人，当想到自己不过是十几亿中的一份 子，就会体会到个人的渺小。因此，中国 人个人自由的意识比较弱，而集体主义精 神就比较强。反观美国社会，其根基是由 一群强盗和流氓奠定的，这也就决定了美 国的思想基础是基于强盗逻辑，社会游戏 规则也体现这种强盗逻辑，有趣的是美国 人称这种规则为民主。所以不难理解为什 么美国人从来不对别国讲民主，强盗间的 游戏规则本来就不是对平民老百姓的。 中国真得要学习美国的民主吗？其实不 然。中国需要的是发扬光大自身优良的传 统，无论是儒家思想还是集体主义对中国 社会都是有益的。中国人缺少不是民主自 由，而是社会责任感。

安谧	递交于2002-2-24    读了林先生的两本书，使六十年代出生的 这一代中国人对美国的法律、对美国的三 权鼎立多了一点点了解。过去对这些东西 我也是仅仅停留在字面的理解，现在明白 了，我们在这方面有着太大的差距，根本 不是短期内能够解决的。这里面包括历 史、思维、理念、素质……太多的差异， 但人类的民主是不会逆转的。未来，国 界、种族、民族的界限会越来越模糊。只 是我们赶不上这一天了。

In fact the utterance of these essays tells that the politics is not as complicated as we had thought. However, I'd like to say if Linda wrote these a little more seriously, just a little, it should be better. Most important, Linda tells such a fact: all the politicians are normal human and all the politics are run by individuals, so a good style or mechanism is necessary anyhere. People should believe in institution, but not any individual person or even party. Thanks, Linda.

Metaphilex	递交于2001-1-25 Lida's series on American are unique for their objectivity on and insight into the deep stratum of American history and culture. Too many works on the same topic usually suffer the undersirable tendency of explaininng material with personal or cultural bias. It is never the case that a writer can state a fact without a tint of his personal color, Linda do the best job althogh any careful reader might sense the overpraising subtlties between the lines. Rather than treat this "bias" as a limit of the writer, I would like to understand it as Linda's efforts protruding the bright side of American institution and Culture whcih might otherwise have been overshadowed by its negative consequences resulting from the American crazy and idiosyncratic enthusiaism toward political transparency and media freedom. As emphasized by this book and the numerous historaical figure quoted by Linda, it is almost an effortless work for you to find countless proof evidencing the drawbacks and imperfectility of American institution, however,it is the best among all the extant institutions. On affect, i develop no affinity toward American culture, too many times the poor taste and destructive nature of its extrem commonalty and massive culture only make me ill although i am literally not an advocate of elite culture ,don't mention elite governance. On rationality, I have no choice to transfer my compliment to another institution although i wish i can.
Zenland	递交于2000-10-11 I am a big fan of Linda's work. He/She is one of the best writers I found on this site. Linda's work is filled with intelligence and compassion, narratived through an easy and knowing fluency. I look foward to Linda's next work with much anticipation and excitement.
people	递交于2000-7-20 写得很好，是不可多得的教材。我自认为是 看了许多介绍西方的书，同时也看了许多马 列著作。尽管我从小就认为斯大林模式的社 会一定会改变，当时我才读小学，斯大林模 式这个名词是后来才学的，但我仍然认为它 不是社会主义的。但仍我对西方的民主和法 制抱有成见，尽管这些年以来我读了我能够 找到的有关西方的书籍。今天我读了林先生 的书之后，消除了心中的很多疑问和偏见， 一切豁然开朗。我觉得舆论管制和欺骗是多 么可怕。像我这样从小就不相信他们这一套 （不得不承认他们这一套也在自我否定中变 革，已经有好几套了），我全家都是本科毕 业，但我们还是上了舆论，出版，新闻管制 的当，认为西方的民主和法制不过如此，只 是先走200年而已。林先生的书，使我如梦 方醒。我不知道为什么过去十几年所听，所 读，所看，是有意无意的一个基调，一种模 式，嵌制了我们的思想。真是太可怕了。令 人可悲的是，我们即没有真实了解西方世界 的权利，连真实了解中国的权利也没有--- 所以大家宁可相信小道消息也不相信官方报 道。 ----- 一个认为20年前争于权力但今争于金 钱财富的深圳人。
