Chapter 13 is disappointing though.
Chapter 14 is good!
This is worst of the three.
The author tried to emphasize
the so-called "greatness" of Mao,
which is ridiculous.
From what I read here, I can easily
conclude the the final victories
mostly were because of
(1) Su Yu (in East China)
(2) Lin Biao (in Northeast)
(3) Peng Dehuai (in Northwest)
Although Liu Buocheng was well-
known he actually couldn't compare
with the above three.
Nie Rongzhen and He Long were
mediocre. Xu Xiangqian was good
but with bad health.
Chen Yi was militarily mediocre
but was a nice person and good
political leader.
Mao either made wrong dicisions
(such as in Siping, etc. etc.)
or summarized other people's ideas.
The true performer among political
leaders here were
(1) Liu Shaoqi (in his role in
making decision on Northeast and
almost everything else. He's not
a poet but a best leader CCP could
ever had. Sometimes I wish Jiang
had killed Mao then Liu could be
the leader. Mao was a rotten leader
from any point of views. Those
authors are true idiots!)
(2) Chen Yun (in his role in Nanman)
Deng was also quite good but
couldn't compare with the above two
then.
Zhou Enlai was good at negotiating
but mediocre in all other aspects.

令人越看越索然无味.现在的读者需要了
解的是客观的历史的真实再现,前两卷就
较好地做到了这一点,希望以后的章节能

显示胜利的来之不易. 描写一个统帅将军
的伟大, 不但要写出怎么挫败敌人也要写出
怎样赢得下属的信任. 对敌人也要客观
描写. 虽然说张灵甫最后在内战中犯下了
可以说是罪行, 但是对他和74军在抗战中
的功绩, 似乎可以稍微提一提, 有这样的
对手, 更加衬托出国民党发动内战的不义,
再怎样有辉煌历史的战斗力很强的部队,
曾经的正义之师, 民族的英雄和保卫者,
由于国民党政治上的腐败, 丧失了民心,
仍然不能挽救其命运, 值得后来者引以
为鉴.
打74师的困难写的不够。其实当时差一点
就前功尽弃。打完后，匆忙撤离战场，被
国军紧追不舍的狼狈也没写。
这部分开头确实写的比较烂
不过打74师写的还行
