Tragedy under Patriarchy
life of ...... 递交于2004-4-10    Edit/Delete
All the misery happens because of
the weaknesses of human being.
Although Tess is the main
character, I could not praise for
so much. Maybe it's not her fault
at all. she's beautiful, gentle
and considerated. she seems to be
popular everywhere. but there's no
perfection in human being, of
course, she's no execption but i
think what her charcter could
improve is to believe more in
herself and the one she loves. she
should be more determined. Anyway,
if she's perfect, that story would
not be so eloquent and there will
not be sighs in a tragic love
story.

tess is a pure girl

Tess is a pure girl with an angelic
heart. Sometimes I felt she is too
good to be true, but nonetheless
her story touched me everytime I
read the novel. I still remember
the first time I read the English
version during my first year in
college. It was toward the final
exams, but I just couldn't put the
book down. The ending of the novel
is full of despair but hinted of
hope.

This is one of the most sorrowful
stories I have ever seen. Tess’s
life is a tragedy. I entirely
indulged in her story when I read
the novel. Her miserable life
touched me a lot. I can not help
crying when I read the last
several chapters. After suffering
so much tribulation, Angel and she
still can not be together.
Sometimes we have to believe it
must be her destiny and she is
powerless to control it. But why
she has to suffer so much, she is
so beautiful, innocent and
virtuous. The only thing to be
gratified is that her husband,
from whom she expects so much,
always loves her deeply and
eventually comes back to her.

Tess is a poor girl. Beacause her
beauty ,innocence and pureness,she
has a miserable and difficult
life. She is a girl of nature but
she fated to be taken the wrong
steps of meeting ALEC and ANGEL in
her life .Fate is unpredictable
for everybody ,it`s also
indispensable for Tess.

I will graduate from college this
coming june,and I choose "TESS"as
my essay. For the reason I show my
sympathy to this character,Does the
chastity of the woman really
important towards the man?the
reasons influnce Tess'features from
the background of the
era,family ,society...all in all.to
be a thoroughly pure woman is
impossible in such a special status!

When I first read the novel I have
graduated from school for 3 years,
but I still was moved by Tess, the
most beautiful and purest girl
under the pen-point of Hardy.
Generally speaking, the words are
also very beautiful, especially in
the description of the scene. When
you really deeply immerse in the
lines of the fiction, you would
consider Hardy is the genius who
could fluently and skillfully use
the circumstances and scenery to
express the feelings of the roles.
After finish this novel, I think
everyone would have mercy on the
fate of Tess, but the root caused
the tragedy is by the stiff and
moldered minds of her father who
had the useless ego and vanity.

Tess is an innocent girl, but she
is not gifted enough not to tell
her secret to her husband. I think
it is also a lesson. Sometimes it
is good to tell a white lie.

i read the chinese version of the
story when i was an undergraduate
at university. it was recommended
by my girlfriend. the pure lovely
girl tess and her story touched me
deeply, and my girl also moved by
the fate of tess. in a time we
share the feelings of loving for
and sympathizing to tess. now the
story is elusive to me since my
girl and i seperated for some
reasond. anyway,i will never forget
the beautiful name "tess" just like
the experiences of my first love.

the book is about a pure woman.
it's wonderful for Hardy to have
this comment hundreds ofyears ago.
even today, a woman like the
herione will be looked down upon.
it seems that there's long way for
us to go until women can share the
same rights with men.

In the beginning, Alec tricked the
innocent young girl into working as
a ponltry maid. So many people may
think “This is the first step Alec
did something wrong”.but you can
think as the only son of the
representative of the d’
Urberville, he has his own
characteristics---selfish, disdain
worldly affairs. Facing such a
pretty young girl, he certainly
wanted to do something to show
himself. He helped Tess to get a
job and didn’t let she knew this
job was his arrangement, he just
wanted Tess to stay longer with
him. Also, he treated her family
very well, gave a new horse to
Tess’father and many new toies to
her younger brother and sister as
presents. Although he said some
impolite words to Tess, this was
not because he wanted to insult her
but because of his characteristics.
He was not a real gentleman indeed.
And everyone knows that one’s own
characteristics couldn’t be
changed in a very short time.
Alec used his own way to love Tess.
Although his way hurt Tess
sometimes, he didn’t mean that.
