the English translation first and I
considered this novel to be among
the best of 20 century novels, then
I came here to read the Chinese
translation, and was greatly
disappointed. If one can't
translate a novel elegantly, he/she
should at least be faithful to the
original novel, never abridge,
never distort, and never create
his/her own explanations.
Finally, it seems this Chinese
version not translated from the
novel, but the movie.
